The crew at Mustangs Daily has let the internets in on the first morsels of information about the 2014 Ford Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang). As you may know, America's pony car will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in just three years, so there's been more than a little interest in what FoMoCo will come up with to celebrate the occasion. It turns out, the '14 car won't be an evolution of the current machine we all know and love. Instead, it will be something completely different. Ford (http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford) is keeping exactly what that means to itself for the moment, other than to say that the next design will be a huge leap forward for the nameplate.

Here's hoping that doesn't mean the re-introduction of the Mustang II.

Fortunately, Ford seems pretty pleased with the way that the design is going so far, saying that we'll see a "pretty cool" Mustang crop up in 2013 as a 2014 model. Given how far the car has advanced over the past three years, we can't wait to see what Ford is up to with its muscle car. Listen to what else J Mays, Ford's vice president of global design, has to say about future styling of the Blue Oval's entire portfolio in the video after the jump (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/04/j-mays-very-cool-mustang-coming-in-2014-w-video/#continued).

How about a new terminator? :ford:

With the engine & chasis platform they currently are on, this would never happen.
Eco-boost is in the near future for at least the v6 stang.

OKAY (making a prediction or rather a want):

To shed some weight off the s197's. Good grief. Yea yea all the interior is nice & luxurious but bring it back to its roots. People want a muscle car not a fun driving grocery getter car. Thats what you can get with Chevy. Yea the s197's > new edges in power. Maybe it's just me but the new edges feel more like a muscle than the s197's. Not to mention they are lighter, they have alot more mod to be sought after (although give it a few year & the 5.0 too will be rolling). Ford surely can strip it down and keep it nice without looking cheap or bulking. Outside of the plastic rear-end bumper I prefer the look of the 2010 ups > the 2005-09 models. Because they look more agressive..... agressive is what defined Mustang back in the late 60's early 70's with their cars. Plus folks want a car that they do most of the work on inside they own garage with simple tools. After 2004, Mustang put in the TPMS Sensor Kit on tires: What ever happened to just mounting and balancing a set? Now its digital. Also im aware that if you start messing around too much with the MAF (air sensors) or the plenum, etc. You'll need to grab a tuner dial in the updated add-ons otherwise your cars codes will go off and your car wont run properly. Sure my 4.6 v8 can't out-preform nor has microsoft sync like the newer models do but at least for a non-gear head simple -adds on can be done with just the wrench & socket. So i'd like to see Ford bring a solid plateform where there's not so many wires connected where you'd need a degree from MIT along with a mech background to add hp, suspension, etc to your car. So maybe Ford... build 2 types of mustangs: 1 for the everyday riders 1 for the people whom want the power but like sticking to the basics of what a American Muscle car oughta be. :)
