Ford (http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/) is continuing its tradition of auctioning off a Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang) for charity at Barrett-Jackson (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson) this month by offering a one-off 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/13/ford-mustang-boss-302-is-back-for-2012/) painted Grabber Blue. Regular production versions of the car will only be offered in either black or silver with red accents. "Since this Boss Mustang will have a very low production number and be specially built for our 40th anniversary event, the new owner will have a special piece of performance history for their collection," says Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson.

Ford (http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/) has previously offered special Mustangs (http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang) for charity at Barrett-Jackson (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson) including the first production Shelby GT500KR (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/19/barrett-jackson-2008-first-2008-shelby-gt500-kr-sells-for-605/), the first production 2010 Shelby GT500 (http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/carroll-shelby-catches-a-cold-first-2010-gt500-rescheduled-for/), and a Daytona 500 pace car (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/23/2011-ford-mustang-daytona-500-pace-car-brings-big-money-at-barre/). This year, all proceeds of the sale above the car's MSRP will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

You can read full details about the auction in the press release after the jump.

Wow you really have something against this BOSS 302 huh? Thats a shame, I love it.... just watched a special on the SPEED channel about this car. Except the color option could be a bit better. The handling race package sets it aparts from all previous mustangs. 1st american sports car that started as a race (Nat GRAND AM SERIES) 1st before it went into production, the zr1 vette can't even say that lol. Jack Roush & Carrol Shelby were commenting on its unique features in which in some respects they liked the Boss better than their own line of mustangs. :D This is truely a racers race car as well as a street racing king. The above pic does it no justice it looks great on TV (yet to see it in person). Has even a distinct exhaust tone that is set apart from ROUSH, SALEEN, 5.0 GT, and SHELBY. Plus they didn't option it with all the fancy junk. Just the bare minium needed to go fast. Plus there alot of "toy room" for mod crazy ppl. Really outside of the classic 65-71 mustangs i really haven't seen any mustang that i couldn't live without until this BOSS 302. Although the Cobra R (2000) i would do just about anything to have it too.

....And its only based on the 2010 comparison (mustang vs. camaro). Even so its off because most mustang guys knew time the 2010 were out that 1 more year and they could have the 5.0. So really imo chevy won be default because ppl were holding out.

I'm sorry, but the 69-70 mustang are the best looking mustang to date. Maybe you require glasses?

Yeah, have you noticed how dealers couldn't give away the 2010's? Anyone who is buying a Mustang for more than a car to get from A to B is going to get the 5.0... And you must remember that camaro lovers have been waiting, what 7 yrs? And even at that, the number sold was quite small if you think about how many camaro people are out there and they all knew GM was building this car for what seemed like forever, so production numbers mean nothing.

As for the Mustang II, you have to remember that was one of the best selling Mustang's ever! Not the best car, but it kept the name alive through a dark time for the Auto industry and it lead to the fastest and most efficient Mustangs every that are now being compared to the what many consider the bench mark for sports cars......

Sounds like you need to add a mustang history thread to the Forum! :spiny:

Well This this doesn't do anything for me and it isn't true to form with the originals I can recall those sitting at the Rochester dealership, Yellow, Red, Blue looked liked candy to me! Yes 70 was the year of the Horse. I gotta be real honest if I hadn't bought my Bullitt and I was looking today,, It would be Challenger SRT8 (White no stripes as in Vanishing Point) Camaro (yellow or Red) and then the Mustang (Shelby white blue stripes)

Let me say this about that,, I dont need glasses I have owned 4 1970 Mustangs and in 2000 I had a Boss 302,,, and one of the 70's was a 428 I think the 1970 is the most beautiful of all Mustangs not the 4 eyed 69 but the 70! so how many have you owned? So don't tell me I need glasses Since late in 1970 I have owned 18 Mustangs! Most of them new How many have you had Hmmm?? :flipoff:

69>70 But each is to their own. I've only own five mustangs, 1971 Mach1, 1984 5.0, 2004 Mach1, 1969 Mach1 with a 429bbf.

But I wasn't born until the late 70's; so you kind of have a head start on me.:bootyshake:

Everyone has different tastes so thats totally fine. It sounds like to me though you're into new sport cars that are staying true to the "classic" look. Which the Challenger fills and to an extent so does the Camaro. But Ford (on the cutting edge of technology) isn't trying to copying to the 69 or 70 Boss 302. Its different and for good reasons. It's time and i agree to move past the retro look. It's been done already (05-09). How much longer are people going to want to buy those cars? Man the difference from lets say 2007 GT to a 2010+GT are night and day in terms of technology, appearance, comfortant, style, and handling. Ford needed something different since Dodge and Chevy also copied Ford with their version of their "retro" look. But the new Boss 302 will outpreform the old 302 in every category & maybe even the price tag lol. This is a perfect time for Ford to move forward.

All of my friends I hang out with are GM boys and they'll be the first to tell you how much they hate the new camaro. I can't even start to begin with my personal feeling about this car. I grew up and still surround myself with the good ol' boys but this isn't their car. It's visability sucks, if your taller they 6ft your head wacks the roof, altho i like the auto paddle shifters the auto is a slush box, the stick version needs a bit off push as well because its slow from stop-go, the interior is just cheap looking, its heavy (at least no like a challenger boat) but that will change in 2014 as they switch platforms (2014? i LOL'd because chevy is 1 step behind Ford, look there isn't even a z/28 yet?) theres premiums on just about everything.... you mentioned yellow color? Well Chevy for 2012 models added a $200 extra price tag to that color because its been soo popular. For the company that we own they sure aren't giving us any breaks.

But getting back to the Ford Boss 302 Mustang and Ford themselves working on new projects: Fords on their game unlike the other BIG 2. And they are creating great New Mustangs which Im excited about and look forward to seeing what else comes out. Because if I wanted a "classic" ill just go buy the real deal.
