It's on our calendar. Just depends if something related to baseball comes up for our son. Rod is the assistant coach so when extra practices/games come up, that's where we'll be.

I would love to go and check it out. Maybe try out the track a few times. Would we cruise out as a group or just meet their?

On a test day generally the gates open at 7:30 a.m. and testing runs from 09:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - weather permitting of course. After that, if you want to get into a saturday night special race...you can. :)

You'll need a helmet with a valid rating... Here's an excerpt from the rock falls website regarding helmets:

http://www.rockfallsraceway.com/index.php

IMPORTANT TECH UPDATE: Effective 1/1/12 the Snell M2000 or SA2000 Helmets will no longer be valid for use in drag racing. Please check your helmet and if you have either a Snell M2000 or Snell SA2000 you will need to replace it prior to competing in any competition at any NHRA sanctioned racetrack in 2012. The Snell M2000 or Snell SA2000 helmets are expired and no exceptions will be made for use of this model of helmet if you are running 13.99 and quicker in the 1/4 mile or 8.59 in the 1/8th mile. Acceptable helmets are the Snell 2005 and Snell 2010. Please also remind your fellow racers to check their helmets as well!! Thanks.

HMMRDWN

It's $69 for testing that day. If you want to get into the saturday night special race it's $30 more.

It's a lot of fun! :D

As I recall "M" rated helmets are NOT acceptable at NHRA sanctioned trackes regardless of age.
They must have a SNELL rating.

They must have a SNELL rating.

M helmets are perfectly acceptable if valid year. Here is the rule from the NHRA rulebook:
Drivers of NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and E.T. cars (13.99
or quicker) must use a helmet meeting Snell SA2000, M2000,
SA2005, M2005, SA2010, M2010, or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, 31.1/2005,
41.1A, 41.2A, or 41.1/2005 Specs.

At Rock Falls, helmets are mandatory for ALL racers, regardless of speed. DOT helmets are not necessarily SNELL rated helmets. There is a metallic sticker inside a SNELL helmet with the SA2XXX or M2XXX rating. You have to really dig for it in some helmets to find it.

Hoping to be there...

And I found the event I was remembering.... the Autocross event at DCTC sponsered by the COM (Corvettes of Minnesota) was the event that you could not run "M" rated helmets.

Sorry for any confusion I created.

So my snowmobile helmet would work ok?

soulfisher
05-04-2011, 11:09 AM
Won't know without checking it, but if it is only DOT and not SNELL, no it won't work. The sticker looks like the photo attached, but could have an M instead of SA, or 2000, 20010. 3191 Simply saying "Snell Approved" above a DOT sticker on the back isn't the same thing. This sticker is usually buried inside the helmet under the lining.

I looked at my snowmobile helmet and it didnt have any snell sticker anywhere on it or in it. looks like i need to either borrow one from somebody or try and find one for a good deal. :\

Rock Falls does have a couple of helmets they will rent for the day. I think it's $10 and you leave your license. You can get them at the souvenir window of the concession stand.
As for buying a helmet, I actually think I found some helmets at Fleet Farm for $79 once that had the correct Snell sticker. Personally, I feel better about putting my head in a $300 helmet than a $80 helmet, but if it really meets the standard, it should be okay.

^HMMM....i shall call over there and ask. I'll buy a new helmet when i have more time to actually get into it, otherwise it's like 300 bucks which sets on a shelve 360 days a year.

ShadowGT04

I will bring my helmet and if it works cool and if not than I will have to rent one. Now would anybody have some.slicks I could use for the day. I just need them for the rear.

Unfortunately, the Saturdat test and tune session has been cancelled dur to rain. Next Saturday is a fun race or there are more dates on the Rock Falls Raceway website. Bracket racing will still happen tomorrow. You are welcome to come and race.
