Maui & Kauai

Below are some pics from my recent trip to Hawaii. I got fed up with the cold damp weather in Minnesota, plus I heard there are some awesome cookies in Hawaii, so I hitchhiked to LA and stowed away on a freighter to Kauai and then island hopped to Maui. Feel free to come back and look at the pics when it starts snowing again in September :)

Before going I read about 'the road to Hana', supposedly one of the greatest drives in the world, 52 miles to get to Hana, 600 curves, 54 1 lane bridges, winding around the coast on the east part of the island. Words and pictures don't do it justice, it's gorgeous! We did the full loop, most turn back at Hana and for good reason, the second half of the road is a bit scary at times. No pavement for 7 miles, potholes, bumps, mostly 1 lane so if you meet a car coming towards you one of you has to back up and find a spot to pull over, blind curves where you're praying nobody is coming towards you, parts of the edge of the road taken by the ocean with only an orange traffic cone marking the danger 50' below, as if that all isn't nerve wracking enough you have to watch out for cows on the road.

If you look at the other hill you can see a line cutting through it, that's the road.
