Most available choices at your local car rental agency are tame appliances built to shuttle you from Meeting A to Hotel B. Back in the day, however, things were a bit different thanks to Shelby (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/shelby) and Hertz (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/hertz). In 1966, the rental car company and Carroll Shelby partnered up to offer a custom Ford Mustang. Shelby built 1,000 units, Hertz rented them out and a horde of happy customers used them to rip up their local dragstrips and main streets. In 2007, the duo joined again joined forces (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/01/ford-unveils-shelby-gt-h-convertible-001-sells-at-barrett-jack/) to supply some muscle into the rental fleet. Now comes word that Shelby is looking to celebrate its 50th anniversary with an all-new rent-a-racer.

According to Automotive News, Shelby plans to team up with Hertz to bring a new generation of the Mustang GT-H into the world. Starting with a 412-horsepower Ford Mustang GT (http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang), Shelby will reportedly take the two-door and juice it up a notch before applying gold stripes to either a black car or a white one. The details of the mooted 2012 Shelby GT-H program have yet to finalized, but keep an eye out for distinctive Mustangs sitting at Hertz lots in the not-to-distant future.Shelby to bring back rent-a-racer program? Too bad they probably won't rent them here though. Christ you can't even rent a V-8 Mustang here in MN... I haven't found one at least...

I've seen them in Rental Lots down South.... Camaros, Challengers, and 5.0's. Even HI (had a friend get back from there, he rented a R/T Challenger & a new Camaro during his 2 week stay). He said he paid i wanna say $30 something per day (Thats a deal). Your well aware because we have snow/rain/mix about 9 months a year there aren't many up here lol no market to have them.

I remember i went to San Fran for a trip about 2 weeks after the HERTZ SHELBY's went out to rental shops. I saw 2 ready to go at the Hertz while I was there.

Can't wait to see what they come up with! I am totally in LOVE with the 2006 version. This version could be better with the much better engine. Let's hope it goes beyond some sticker stripes and hype and actually delivers the goods.

Should be good indeed (im in agreement though) would prove a much better thrill if they slap in a few goodies. I'd like to see the shelby handling pack (at least).
