Ford kicked off its turn-key drag racing program with the debut of the Mustang Cobra Jet in 2008 (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/04/sema-2008-ford-ready-to-go-drag-racing-with-fr500cj-cobra-jet-m/), and since then both Dodge (http://autoblog.com/dodge) and Chevrolet (http://autoblog.com/chevrolet) have joined the party with the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/01/2011-mopar-challenger-drag-pak-unveiled-with-viper-v10-power/) and the recently-introduced COPO Camaro Concept (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/31/chevrolet-copo-camaro-concept-lives-life-a-quarter-mile-at-a-tim/). With the competition from its American counterparts Ford hasn't been able to rest on their laurels, updating the Cobra Jet in both 2010 (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/sema-2009-ford-unveils-2010-mustang-cobra-jet-now-with-optiona/) and for 2012 (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/04/ford-delivers-2012-mustang-cobra-jet-racers-lays-claim-to-quick/). Now, Ford has revealed yet another revised Cobra Jet for 2013, with the car being unveiled at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in Florida.

The biggest change for the 2013 Cobra Jet is the availability of two 5.0-liter V8 options that come in either naturally aspirated or supercharged variants, allowing competitors to compete in the NHRA Stock Eliminator category. Further updates to the 2013 Cobra Jet include a lighter body, electric power steering, a new roll cage and new suspension geometry that allows for quicker launches.

As in previous years, just 50 Cobra Jets will be produced for 2013 at the AAI assembly plant alongside road-going Mustangs, with customers being chosen on a first come first served basis. With the new 5.0-liter engine options the base price has dropped to $86,000, and the optional supercharger puts that number closer to the six figure mark. I'll take one on black, please!!!
That'll be sweet, but I wonder if we'll ever get to see one locally.

As neat as it would be to have or else own either the Mopar or Bowtie car. I'd much rather take the new gt500 with it pushing 600. There's no real reason (unless your HARD-CORE racer) to own this thing; it's not even street legal & if it anything like that CJ (at our 2010 fall show) then it'd wake the dead and be a handful to put-around in. Gimme something I can enjoy around town (love the race feeling) but not have to have a race car to do so.
