Pretty opened ended question as it all depends what needs to be done and what your goals are. I'm not a fan of old sedans unless there Chevy or else roadsters.

^^ This. The good thing about 4-doors is you can buy them really cheap. The bad thing about 4-doors is they are almost impossible to sell. If you want it for a 2nd family car, then it could a great deal. The cold hearted non car guy would slap the kids in the back with their car seats, cruise everywhere in comfort, drive it year round and throw it away when they're done with it. The car guy in me has a hard time driving a potential collector car in the winter though. Anyway, tell us what your goals are and we can give you flawless interweb advice. :D

Ok, its a 63 merc metior, stock, comes with stock wheels, looks like in pics it hadan older restoration, and engine trans rebuild 9-10 yrs ago.hasnt been driven in 5yrs. So standard tune up, fluids, carb rebuild would be needed.
i would be trading the contour, plus cash from him.
plans with this car would be to update the brakes, suspention and driveline. It would be a summer only cruiser, dd. Something we can throw the kids in and cruise around.

The plan with the svt was always to get it "done" and sell or trade it for something more my style.

Right on. Plus like you said it would be fun family hot rod. I am considering a few different family size hot rods for my next horsepower toy.

It's not a problem at all. Just go into any 4 door purchase with your eyes open. Engine mods, paint work, chrome plating, interior, etc. It all costs the same whether it's for a convertible or for a 4 door. It's easy to get upside down on them really fast and then you're going to take a huge loss when you sell. I've bought 4 doors myself, but I bought them cheap and then sold them the same way. Whatever you decide, good luck!!
