The 1940 Ford Coupe body shell from Ford Restoration Parts (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ford+restoration+parts/) presents a clean canvas for those people who've always wanted the perfect hot rod. The durable body (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/26/embargo-10-26-12-01am-est-blue-oval-adds-40-ford-to-its-growin/) is a far better starting place than similar kits made from fiberglass, and is much easier to source than an original 70-year-old car.

Ford (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/) is taking the first crack at putting one of these babies together, in the appropriate environs of the SEMA (http://autoblog.com/sema) show. This factory version has received a heart transplant in the form of a carbuerator-fed V8 crate engine, which should give it plenty of performance to back up those classic good looks. Hot rod inspiration, thy name is Ford.

interesting - I'm thinking this is about 20 years too late?

My wife and I were just talking about that very thing - is this too late. I don't think so. Having a hotrod shop and mail order business right down the street, I see a significant amount of interest in people who want a hotrod and want to do their own work. But, there's nothing like this left to start with.

I think it's an interesting idea and I hope it does well.
