Three months after kicking off production of the Ford Fusion (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/fusion/) at its Flat Rock, MI factory, Ford Motor Company (http://www.autoblog.com/ford) is taking steps to trim output in the face of heavily discounted competition from Toyota (http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/) and a growing supply of vehicles.
The addition of Fusion production in Flat Rock - which also builds the Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang) - was meant to be what pushed the handsome mid-sizer past (http://www.autoblog.com/2013/09/27/toyota-camry-could-lose-number-1-sedan-spot-next-year-video/) its arch-nemesis (http://www.autoblog.com/2013/08/26/ford-fusion-production-increasing-challenge-toyota-camry/), the Toyota Camry (http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/camry). An extra facility building Fusions was also meant to curb the growing demand for Ford's highly profitable sedan.
