Alan Mulally (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/alan+mulally/) will not be following his successful term as president and CEO of Ford Motor Company (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/) with a run at an even bigger presidency. Rumors that the 68-year-old former Boeing exec would make a run at the White House sprouted after his apparent dodging of a reporter's questions about a potential candidacy during a forum in Indianapolis.

"I really think it's important that we all pull together. We really need to pull together around a compelling vision for our country and a comprehensive strategy to do it and work together. We really need to do it," Mulally said at the conference, according to The Detroit News.

He's since clarified by saying, "[I'm] honored at the suggestion, but that is not a role I am considering (http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140914/AUTO0102/309140044/1148/)."

As The Detroit News points out, Mulally has enjoyed solid relationships with both members of Congress and the White House, to the point that he was offered a position in the Obama administration's cabinet, taking over the scandal-ridden Department of Veteran's Affairs. Mulally confirmed he'd passed on the role in June, and in July he took a seat on the board of Google (http://www.autoblog.com/2014/07/16/former-ford-ceo-alan-mulally-google-board/).Former Ford CEO Mulally won't run for president (http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/15/mulally-ford-no-president-bid/) originally appeared on Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com) on Mon, 15 Sep 2014 13:59:00 EST.
