Just heard about this today. Car Craft Summer Nationals will be at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds for 2015.

http://www.hotrod.com/news/2015-car-craft-summer-nationals-a-new-location-and-registration-is-open/

However, Family Events is still putting on a show at the MN Fairgrounds that same weekend, calling it Street Machine Nationals or something.

Given this news, what do you think most people will do? Move with Car Craft to Wisconsin, or show Minnesota solidarity and stay with the local show?

Doesn't matter to me so much because CC never interested me, but that is quite the haul and I don't see many making that trip. JMO

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Probably won't get nearly as many long travelers at the MN show. Maybe parking won't be an issue at all, haha.

Wouldn't that be nice!

Car Craft had change so much in the last couple years that it almost got boring to an extent in certain aspects. I am curious to see what its going to be like with them gone.

Yeah, when I first got my Zeph back in '05, I wouldn't dream of letting it miss Car Craft. But then it did miss the 2013 show, and it didn't really bother me, haha. I think I'm ready for something new too.

Car Craft does have kind of a hard road ahead getting the word out that their show is moving. I think both theirs and ours should be significantly smaller this year.

I think you will still see all the same cars and a few new ones. Not many people going to travel to Milwaukee to follow the crew I don't think. The biggest change will likely be more "national" vendors. Which I don't see as a negative.

Well, when I first heard about this, my thought was, "screw the magazine!". I'll bet they screwed themselves. While 90 miles from the Chicago market, not many are gonna travel to Milwaukee. Also, there's no way the fairgrounds there is bigger than ours. I don't see the loyal locals traveling there either, and there's no chance they'll get the 3500 cars they had here. I wonder if they couldn't make a deal with family events and family events took the fairgrounds out from under them. Or, maybe the fair management wouldn't rent the whole fairgrounds to cater to the horse people. The outfit that is putting on the show here says 7000 cars, but there's no way that'd happen, unless they really go all out to attract us.

i am orig from the Milwaukee area and the fair grounds there are no where near as big or as nice as the mn grounds. 1/2 the size at best the only plus that i see the WI grounds having is a paved circle track out there. and a small auto x track in the middle (the Milwaukee mile.) and the only way that the CC show would be cool is if you got to run that circle a few times or the autox and i doubt they will let that happen.

Just saw Jeff Smith will still be running the "Challenge Event" at the new show in MN. :)

If their intent is to kill off the Car Craft magazine & brand then they're on par by moving it to Wisconsin & even a smaller market.

Does Jeff Smith even work for CC anymore now with the recent mag staff shake-ups?

I definitely plan to go to the MN show too.

He got canned as the Car Craft Senior Editor, but was retained in some way by Peterson Publications (my understanding anyway).
But talking with him last year at the CC show, that may be short lived as well.

The paper-magazine is a dying entity.

I still like reading print, so sucks for me, but agree that print is dying. Jeff S. now is employed by the media company that is putting on the show at the fairgrounds. There was a post on their website. He technically is freelance for TEN (Car Craft). They let most of their salaried staff go with the revamp of all of the magazines. Sucks with the stopping of magazines I think my Hot Rod subscription is good through 2020 now. 200 tread wear will be in effect. It is the new limiting factor on events. Tire manufacturers are reclassifying their tires to meet the 200 rating so they can compete now. Funny how a 150-180 class is magically becoming a 200 with no change in tire compound. :) OUSCI, Good Guys, etc. all 200 tread wear.

Bump it up to 600 tread wear and let the fun commence... LOL
That would be "exciting".

I already signed up for the local show. Not like Milwaukee is Sturgis which is always worth the drive. Hey Carson my dues is due who do I send it to or is the club not a formal club anymore? I missed the Christmas party and am in the dark....

Still a formal club, for now you can renew through either Paypal or by sending a check. I will put together a meeting very soon, would like to get a few things on the agenda for 2015. :)

I was surprised when i heard about the move, but I am curious to see how the change will effect the July car show. I am planning on attending street machines...
