Last fall, NASCAR, Ford (http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/) and Dodge (http://www.autoblog.com/make/dodge/) all made a lot of noise about the introduction of the Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang) and Challenger (http://www.autoblog.com/model/challenger) bodies into the Nationwide race series. This all came after the latest Sprint Cup "Car of Tomorrow" drew criticism because all four participating brands had identical body shells, none of which looked like the stock road cars that lend them their names. The initial renderings (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/28/ford-mustang-is-officially-nascar-bound-in-the-nationwide-seri/) focused on the front ends of the new racers (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/31/dodge-challenger-nascar-nationwide-racer-unveiled/), which featured more upright noses like the real pony cars you'll find in dealer showrooms.

Unfortunately, with this weekend's race debut of the Mustang and Challenger at Daytona, NASCAR proves yet again that nothing has really changed. Despite the the upright front ends, these cars don't look markedly different from each other, or even the Sprint Cup cars, for that matter. With the headlight and grille stickers blurred out, neither of the new Nationwide stockers looks like a pony car. Can you tell which is which? As an die-hard fan: One, just like to say i was happy to see Little E win in the #3 last night. Second, although i believe NASCAR maybe heading in the right direction, officals and BIG $$$ starting ruining this sport in the mid 90's. First, i'd like to see different forms of teh cars. All GM, Dodge, Ford are the same shell just with a different front logo. Quite sad. I mean cmon! lol. Lets get back to were Teams aren't limited to 4 cars and you can qualify with a different motor than what you'd race with. Open it up.... guys.

Sorry, getting back to your post. Im happy to see a little shake up in styles if its only currently in Nationwide. The Mustang look is sweet although the rear end looks goofy. Im curious to see how long before the Camaro enters the scene.
