>> Corvettes of Minnesota (COM) is holding an Auto-X event at DCTC (Dakota County Technical College) on Sunday August 1st.
>>
>> There is another regional event in Milwaukee the same weekend so a lot of drivers will be running that event instead.
>> So far there are only about 30 drivers signed up. They limit the event to 100 drivers. Most events are closed by now.
>>
>> Here is a link to their web site.
>>
>> http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/...event_id=10986
>>
>> Here is a link to view a map of the course.

>>
>> Thanks,
>> Curt

Thanks Curt for the heads up!

I'll sign up tonight.

Anybody else interested, register on the MNAUTOX.com website and signup through there.
Don't worry about a number for now, they'll assign one to you at the event and we can just
use tape to put the numbers on the car (like Amery).

You WILL need a Snell 2000 or newer helmet for this event, I'm not sure if "M" rated helmets
are acceptable or not, will need to check with the organizers.

Hope to see some of you out there !

Rod

Some more info (after reading the rules)...

Helmets must be "M" or "SNELL" 2000 or newer.

Enter into the "N" class (Novice), if they feel you should be in another class based on modifications or ability, you can be moved up on location.
If you are running Street (DOT Approved) Tires with a tread rating of 140 or higher you can run the STREET TIRE designation.

Your other option is to enter the "X" class (Exhibition) meaning you are not competing for trophies, but just there more in a "test and tune" position.

Since most from here will be going just for fun, the following probably doesn't apply, but for those with some experience...
There ARE bumping rules (meaning you can have your class shifted in with another or multiple classes based on the number of entries).

Signon to the mnAutoX site and follow this link for a full set of rules / class designations etc...

Do they allow spectators?

HELLFYR
07-21-2010, 10:55 AM
A passenger on gate entry, yes.

NO passengers on the auto-cross (except for certified instructors). The exception being "buck runs" if they have them at the end of the day.

As for just walk in spectators, knowing the DCTC layout, I'd say there is probably lots of space back behind the main fences to spectate.
I'll send an email and ask them though.

At most events, when you step onto the property, you sign a waiver and are issued a wrist band and you can basically go anywhere. Some people just show up to photograph and spend the day in the infield.

We'll have to go with that answer, trying to email the listed "contact" netted a rejection on multiple attempts.

I don't think there are. I remember seeing a mid-90's Muatang convertible at the last event on July 18th.

Also, you might want to bring your own lunch and beverages (no alcohol allowed). There are usually no vendors selling food at these events.

Generally, the autocrosses allow spectators on the course after signing their liability release.

You can't appreciate the true "surprise" nature of cones coming up on you out of the blue until you have run one of these higer speed auto-crosses.
Talking with the Corvette guys who setup the course, there is NO WAY this course would have been approved by SCCA, it was simply too fast.

I had spots slong the 3rd and 4th stretches where I was topping out 2nd gear.
It was a blast, and I am considering registering with them to run regularly. (Oh my poor wallet... maybe TireNick would sponser me and cut me a tire deal :uhoh: )

As D9 said, would definitely recommend a DCTC autocross event to anyone.

Full bunch of pictures are here: http://www.mnfords.com/album.php?albumid=35
(Sorry Carson, I snapped these as we were getting ready to pack up)

Thanks to Carson for bringing his grill and cooking up Hot Dogs for the group!

Videos are currently uploading to YouTube. I tried to pull out the best ones of the bunch (I took 19 total).
Michelle took a batch with Carson's Video Camera so if you don't see one from the morning run, it is most likely on Carson's camera.

Here are everyone's best times:

Carson: 1:15
Kyle: 1:13
Curt: 1:14
Rod: 1:11
Dan: 1:15

As for Cones for the day, Carson, Kyle and Curt ended the day with 0 cones!! Nice job guys!

Rod ended with 10 cones!

Dan was our champion with 16 cones for the day!

It was a fun day, glad everyone could attend. Thanks for coming.

The results are not posted yet, but here is a link when they are available.
http://www.met-council.org/series.htm

This was my 4th Auto-X at DCTC. Two COM (Corvettes of Minnesota) events and two MOWOG events. Unfortunately the COM guys are a little under funded. Their timing equipment is not very reliable and they were extremely short on cones. The MOWOG guys have tons of tall cones which helps mark the course better. And they were a little less organized that the MOWOG group. I would definately attend more MOWOG events.

As Rod mentioned, the Corvette guys set up the course for some good speed. At the MOWOG events, I can usually run the course in 1st gear, occasionally banging the rev limiter. On Sunday, I was shifting between 1st and 2nd throughout the course.

The next Auto-X at DCTC is a MOWOG event on Sunday August 22nd. There is still plenty of room. 85 drivers signed up so far with a max of 150.

Post up if you plan on attending.

Thanks,
Curt

Cone rash? on my Cobra? More likely than I think?

For the record, I didn't put magnets on my car.... Jenn did. So if there are scratches in my black butter paint, it's her fault.

Well i had a ton of fun (except being towed out of the infield by a certain farm truck). I wouldn't mind doing this again maybe in the fall when the heat isnt so bad.

Here was my "exciting" run.
Once the mayhem starts, it ends up being 4 steering corrections at full lock each direction.... through a slalom.... hitting NO cones.
My "videographer" panic'd after the 2nd correction thinking I was going off course.... nope.
Ran out the rest of the run for a 1:13. My best on the day was a 1:11

I believe Jenn got Curt's runs. With Curt, Kyle and Dan all in the same class, it got a little difficult taping them in the morning. I think we got most of the morning runs, but the afternoon didn't get caught due to the camera leaving early to get packed for some vacation. :)

Bah... we build the cars to drive them. The car shows are just something "else" that we do with them.
Mine has been under construction for the last couple years, hence more "showing" less racing. Now that
is flip flopping and I AM LOVING IT!

This...

I hit one cone that observers said took off to about the roof line of the car for height. Pretty sure it was in the first slalom on the course.
